Error - weighted discriminative training for HMM parameter estimation
نویسنده
چکیده
Optimizing discriminative objectives in HMM parameter training proved to outperform Maximum Likelihood-based parameter estimation in numerous studies. This paper extends the Maximum Mutual Information objective by applying utterance specific weighting factors that are adjusted for minimum sentence error. In addition to that, the paper investigates tuning separate numerator and denominator weighting factors in a way that favors Maximum Likelihood parameter estimates for reasons of stability and generalization on unseen data. The experimental evaluations carried out on German digit string data show that the Error-WeightedMaximumMutual Information approach has the potential of outperforming ordinary discriminative parameter estimates. In our experiments, we see a substantially larger word error rate reduction compared to conventional MMI training. Following the ML-preferred error-weighted discriminative training approach, we see another small improvement.

Dictionary-based discriminative HMM parameter estimation for continuous speech recognition systems
The estimation of the HMM parameters has always been a major issue in the design of speech recognition systems. Discriminative objectives like Maximum Mutual Information (MMI) or Minimum Classi cation Error (MCE) have proved to be superior over the common Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) in cases where a robust estimation of the probabilistic density functions (pdfs) is not possible. The det...
متن کاملOn the choice of classes in MCE based discriminative HMM-training for speech recognizers used in the telephone environment
One of the most commonly used discriminative approaches in parameter estimation for Hidden Markov Models is the Minimum Classification Error (MCE) method ([1]). This paper studies possible choices for the classes (i.e. basic speech units) in MCE training and their application for several tasks suitable for speech driven dialog systems in the telephone environment. The considered choices of clas...

HMMs are statistical models used in a very successful and effective form in speech recognition. However, HMM is a general model to describe the dynamic of stochastic processes; therefore it can be applied to a huge variety of biomedical signals. Usually, the HMM parameters are estimated by means of MLE (Maximum Likelihood Estimation) criterion. Nevertheless, MLE has as disadvantage that the dis...
متن کاملForward-backwards training of hybrid HMM/BN acoustic models
In this paper, we describe an application of the Forward-Backwards (F-B) algorithm for maximum likelihood training of hybrid HMM/Bayesian Network (BN) acoustic models. Previously, HMM/BN parameter estimation was based on a Viterbi training algorithm that requires two passes over the training data: one for BN learning and one for updating HMM transition probabilities. In this work, we first anal...
